Embedding NFB video on your WordPress Blog

I’ve come across a lot of bloggers who are writing about our new online Screening Room but are unable to embed NFB films on their sites.

Instead of using a thumbnail image and a link, you can embed the films directly on your blog using the Vodpod Firefox Extension for WordPress. It’s free, easy to use and requires absolutely no technical skill to install – simply drag and drop the button from the Vodpod Web site onto your Firefox toolbar.

I haven’t figured out how to embed video in a post that’s already written but you can start a new post with the embedded video and then write around it. If anyone figures out another way to do it, please let me know.

And if anyone knows of any plug-ins for other blogging platforms, please share your knowledge via the comment box.

In the meanwhile, watch the (embedded) trailer for Professor Norman Cornett: “Since when do we divorce the right answer from the honest answer?” This is Alanis Obomsawin’s (Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance) latest film about McGill University’s controversial decision to fire a religious studies teacher who didn’t play by the rules. The film, along with 7 other titles, will be heading to Hot Docs next month.

  1. I have a Client with lobby/waiting room for customers and I want to have the monitor in there
show entertaining programs (Like from the nfb) and also a news feed at the bottom
and also a price list on the side – the price list can refresh or change up every few minutes…
any thoughts? there are services that provide this exactly- like the Digital menu boards at ACDelco… here’s an example http://www.10footwave.com/acd/us/

    Paul,
  2. @Andrea – Thanks for your comment. From what I understand, there’s no problem embedding video on WordPress blogs that are not hosted by WordPress (such as this one). However, for some reason (security, I assume) you cannot embed all videos on WordPress-hosted sites.

  3. I have successfully embedded NFB films in WordPress-based websites by pasting the embed code using the Post’s HTML editor, and not the Visual editor, which appears to be the default.
