The NFB VIDEOMATIC teller (circa 1980) was less portable and took up more bandwidth than the current version of the NFB iPhone app.
Indeed, many of the same films were offered back then!

Hello, NFB:
When I heard about the iPhone service a day or so ago, I opened up your web site (guessing I could also look at flicks on my computer). The one I really want to see first is The Bear’s Christmas, made by my late friend Hugh Foulds, with whom I went to high school and university back in the 50s. It appears not to be offered yet. Or anyway I could not find it. Did I miss it somehow? If not, what’s the chance you’ll post it soon? Please let me and the rest of the world know on your blog about this lovely little cartoon. I suppose I could go to the John Street office in Toronto and look at Hugh’s flick, but seeing it at home would far more convenient. I haven’t seen it since he showed it to me decades ago, just after he made it.
Thanks in any case for offering this rich supply of other great films to us.
Cordially yours,
Ted Whittaker
