Montrealers! Join us on June 30 for a free session on Financing Your Short Film!

The following is a guest post by animation producer Michael Fukushima.

Orange, Sylvie Trouvé, provided by the National Film Board of Canada

Orange, by Sylvie Trouvé, was one of last year’s Hothouse shorts.

On June 30, up here at the NFB in Montreal, we’ll be hosting the last knowledge-sharing event of Hothouse 6. It’s a panel we’re calling “Financing Your Short Film!”, because yes, it is possible to finance short films in Canada and we want to help the Hothousers, and other emerging filmmakers who happen to be in Montreal at the time, with practical advice and insights.

Of course, it’s not easy, but if auteur filmmaking is the passion that drives you then this is a presentation you’re not going to want to miss! Our experts include the hugely successful animation short filmmaker Malcolm Sutherland (Bird Calls, Forming Game, Astronomer’s Dream), Tim Dallett from the pan-Canadian Independent Media Arts Alliance (umbrella group for Canadian media arts centres and co-ops), and funders Judy Gladstone (CTVglobemedia’s Bravo!FACT) and media arts officer Felipe Diaz, from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Please join us with your questions, concerns and curiosity and take the chance to speak directly to those who’ve done it, are doing it and who make those decisions so crucial to your creative livelihood. Hosted by me, NFB animation producer Michael Fukushima.

  1. @Shirley – You’re 100% right. We’re recording the session and I hope to get it online.

    — Julie Matlin,
  2. The message has come too late. I really would like to attend these sessions. Physically and economically it is impossible to travel to Canada.
The Internet offers a unique opportunity to show the work I do here in Spain.

My project is to complete the short The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch. I give you the link to the website of the film and the space of youtube.

The 1-minute trailer has surpassed more than 27,000 views on YouTube, and the public’s interest is faborable.
