Meet our digital storytelling contest winners in Champion, AB!

This is a guest post written by Claudia Sicondolfo

In the fall of 2011, NFB Education launched a national competition inviting teachers to enter and win an opportunity for their students to participate in a free digital storytelling contest. 1,305 teachers signed up—1,015 in English and 286 in French. The winners were teacher Mary Stauth and her grade 5/6 class from Champion Middle School, in Champion, Alberta. Champion Middle School has approximately 115 students in the kindergarten to grade 9 level and a total of five teachers.

On March 7, 2012, Maya Bedward (from the NFB Mediatheque) and Claudia Sicondolfo (from NFB Education) spent the day with Mrs. Stauth’s class and some students from the grade 7 class as well. It was a rewarding experience, and together we learned about media literacy and digital storytelling—and even got a visit from the local paper. The students really enjoyed the workshop and the digital stories they made, and we had a wonderful time in sunny Champion.

This is the digital story about our experience in Champion, featuring photographs from our day with the students. There were a few surprises along the way…We hope you enjoy it!

Stay tuned to the NFB Education Blog for more contest opportunities for your own students!
