Land of the Heads premieres at Montreal World Film Festival

We’ve got 5 world premieres at the Montreal World Film Festival (WFF) this year, one of which is Cédric Louis and Claude Barras’ Land of the Heads. I’ve yet to see the film, but both the description and the trailer already have me hooked.

Almost Tim Burton-ish in it’s look and feel, it’s the story of a vampire who is forced to go out every night and decapitate children in order to find the perfect head for his vain wife, who is desperate to replace her own aging one. Again, like the baby scenes in both Neighbours and Runaway, it’s the bit in the trailer with the flying kids’ heads that really turns my crank. I love the subversive nature of it.

If you’re in Montreal for the Festival, be sure to check it out. The WFF runs from August 27 – September 7. If not, I’ll be sure to post when the film becomes available for wider distribution.

What do you think of the trailer?

Update (08/24): After reading this post, producer Michael Fukushima brought me a copy of the film to watch. AWESOME! Great music, fabulous animation and at least 2 hearty from-the-gut chuckles. This is highly recommend viewing. If you’re into this sort of thing…

Note: The end of the trailer points towards a website, which is still under development. It will be live soon.
