NFB Summer 2017 Events Near You!
It’s summer in Canada! Living in our Northern climate, we know we’ve only got a few short months to enjoy the warm weather and all the outdoor activities that go along with it. But sometimes, we need to escape to the indoors to relax… or at least enjoy the air conditioning.
Below you’ll find a list of screenings and activities that we’ll be involved in across the country. This post is a piece in progress, and we’ll be adding to it as events are booked, so bookmark this page and check back often!

QUEBEC
Wide Awake Tour
Throughout the rest of the year, we’ve made our collection of over 250 Indigenous-made films available for community screenings across the country. These films are Indigenous stories, told by Indigenous filmmakers and include popular new releases like The Road Forward and Angry Inuk.

Montreal – Kyma at the Planétarium
From now until December 2017, experience a 360 degree voyage through the universe of waves with Philippe Baylaucq’s astonishing exhibit, Kyma.
Montreal – The Compassion Machine at the Quartier des spectacles

ONTARIO
Wide Awake Tour

Toronto – Tuesday Screenings at Yonge & Dundas Square
Swing by Yonge & Dundas Square every Tuesday until August 29th to watch NFB films! Fan favourites like Bob’s Birthday, William Shatner Sings Oh Canada, and The Sweater will be playing! Follow them on Twitter for more updates and film schedules.
Toronto – Fort York Indigenous Arts Festival
Celebrate the best in Indigenous and Métis culture June 21 to 25 at Fort York National Historic Site. The series of events will energize the grounds of this historic site with powerful ancient traditions and compelling contemporary creations by Indigenous artists.
Orillia – Orillia Museum of Art and History
Until the end of the year, the Orillia Museum of Art and History is featuring The Spirit of Mariposa, a celebration of Orillia and Canada’s 150th. As part of the exhibition, The Awful Fate of Melpomenus Jones, My Financial Career, and Beauty of My People will be playing in a loop.
Ottawa – Arctic Gallery at Canadian Museum of Nature
Starting June 21st, you can visit our interactive installation, Beyond Ice, at the newly-opened Canada Goose Arctic Gallery. The installation is a sensory experience that will transport you to the Arctic, allowing you to experience the rich biodiversity through sounds, light, sights, and touch. Includes slabs of real ice!
Ottawa – National Arts Centre
From July 11 – 23, 2017, you can experience Guy Maddin’s ground-breaking interactive project, Seances. Using clips that recreate silent films of the past, you can create your own narrative that will be available to be viewed once, before it vanishes forever. Up to 24 audience members at a time can participate in the experience.
Niagara – Niagara Falls Museum
Now through December 31, 2017, you can catch the Pieces of Canada exhibition at the Niagara Falls Museum. The exhibit features 150 objects that tell 150 stories about Canada. Throughout the exhibit, both Helicopter Canada and Postcards from Canada will be playing on a loop in the theatre.

Toronto – Ryerson Image Centre
Until August 13 you can see our Souvenir series screening at the Ryerson Image Centre as part of their Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival. Souvenir consists of 4 short films that reframe Indigenous stories, created solely from clips from the NFB archives. The 4 films are Etlinisigu’niet (Bleed Down), Sisters & Brothers, Mobilize, and Nimmikaage (She Dances for People).
ALBERTA
Wide Awake Tour

Wetaskiwin – Reynolds Alberta Museum
A series of NFB animated shorts (17 in all!) will be screening at the indoor drive-in theatre as part of the McLaughlin Story exhibit at the Reynolds Alberta Museum. The exhibit runs until 2018, and includes titles such as Log Driver’s Waltz, The Girl Who Hated Books, and Invasion of the Space Lobsters.
Cardston – Remington Carriage Museum

St. Andrews – Huntsman Aquarium
Every day through October 15, 2017, you’ll be able to watch marine-related films in the theatre at the Huntsman Aquarium in St. Andrews. The screenings are included in your admission fee, and include films like Life on Ice, A Sea Turtle Story, Finding Farley, and new releases like Hand.Line.Cod and Debris.
