Santa received your letter and brought you the tablet of your dreams? You woke up to find an Apple TV under the tree?
Make these gifts even more special and enjoyable with these 3 NFB apps.
NFB Films
After versions for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Windows 8 (tablet), and many smart TVs (see the full list here), our team recently created a new version of the award-winning NFB Films app for the new (4th generation) Apple TV.
A few short weeks following its release, this app was already featured amongst the App Store’s best apps of 2015. With over 2,500 docs, animation and fiction films to watch for free, this is an app you don’t want to miss.
Download it here, or look up “NFB Films” in your favourite app store.
I Love Potatoes
Did you know the NFB made video games? This year, filmmaker-in-residence Vali Fugulin (Toi, moi et la Charte) partnered with Minority Media, an independent video game development studio, and illustrator Patrick Doyon (Sunday) to take a shot at game design.
The result is a fun adventure game that encourages collaborative play and creative problem-solving while teaching sustainability and social change.
Play I Love Potatoes for free online, or download it to your tablet or smartphone (iOS and Android.) Get it here!
NFB StopMo Studio
Designated “Best app 2014” by Apple’s app store, this app for the iPad 2 and up (it requires a camera) was reviewed and updated last year. Optimised for iOS8, it offers a highly intuitive design that is sure to take your stop-motion filmmaking to the next level! Download the app and get your whole family to make a fun animation film over the holidays!
Download the app ($3.49) here.
Hi. I am finding the StopMo app is no longer working, since updating to the most recent IOS. Will the app be updated so it works again? I really like it!
Hi Howard,
Thank you for your comment. I have transferred your query to our client services. They should be in touch with you soon.
Thank you for your patience and interest in the NFB!

Client services wrote: “The issue concerning the App is linked to the new iOS10. Regrettably, it was more extensive than anticipated, and for this reason we haven’t been able to correct it as quickly as we would have liked. However, our Web and Technical teams are working very hard to fix this as soon as possible.
We anticipate that an update to the app will be available at the end of January 2017.
We are sorry for the inconveniences this situation may have caused you. Please feel free to contact us again should you have any questions or concerns.”
